Visit Official Trinity ESOL SiteESOL Skills for Life (QCF/RQF) is a popular UK regulated qualification for adult residents in the UK who need to improve their English skills for work, daily life, citizenship applications, or higher education courses.
For the Entry 3 and Level 1 exams, you must prepare a "Topic Form" before you enter the room. The examiner will choose points from your form to start a conversation. Here is an authentic sample layout.
The speaking and listening component takes 10 to 15 minutes. It is conducted face-to-face with a certified UK assessor. At higher levels (Entry 3, Level 1, and Level 2), you may sit the exam alongside one other candidate to complete interactive tasks.
The assessor will greet you and ask standard questions about your daily life in the UK. Topics include your hobbies, shopping habits, transportation, or plans for the weekend.
You must answer clearly in complete sentences and show you can use tenses (past, present, future) appropriate for your level.
You hand your prepared Topic Form to the assessor. You will deliver a short presentation (around 2 minutes) covering the points on your form.
Following your talk, the assessor will ask you follow-up questions to test your comprehension and ability to explain your ideas in detail.
You will work with another candidate (or the assessor) to complete a practical, real-world task based on a prompt card (e.g. planning a class party or deciding on a gift for a teacher).
You must share suggestions, listen to your partner, negotiate options, and come to an agreement.

Your speech must be clear and easily understood by native British speakers. Focus on correct word stress and links between words.
Can you use tenses correctly? Entry 3 and Level 1 candidates must demonstrate they can talk about past experiences (using simple past) and future plans naturally.
Can you respond naturally to what the examiner or your partner says? Listening actively and responding appropriately is vital to passing the QCF standard.
You must show a wide vocabulary appropriate for daily life, employment, and public interactions in the UK, avoiding basic repetitive terms.
It is a regulated UK qualification for adults living in the UK who need to improve their English skills for daily life, employment, or academic study. It is accredited under the Regulated Qualifications Framework (formerly QCF).
It is co-administered by leading UK exam boards including Trinity College London, Cambridge, Ascentis, City & Guilds, NOCN, and Gateway Qualifications.
