Try a Lithuanian VBE Speaking Scenario

During the VBE oral exam, candidates receive two tasks. Here is an authentic mock prompt covering youth culture and collaborative projects.

VBE Oral Exam Card (Kalbėjimo užduotys)

Scenario: Youth & Society (Level B2)
"You randomly choose a prompt card containing a photograph of young people volunteering to plant trees in a local park, and a dialog scenario..."

Task 1: Monologue (3-4 mins)
  • Describe the image and explain why volunteering is important for teenagers.
  • Answer the prompt questions: How does community work build character? Do you think schools should make volunteering mandatory?
Task 2: Dialogue - Organizing a Charity Event (4-5 mins)
  • Simulation: You and your partner want to organize a charity event at school. Discuss different ideas: a charity bake sale vs. a recycling campaign.
  • Agree on the event type, target audience, promotion strategy, and how to distribute task responsibilities.

VBE Speaking Test Structure

The exam is taken in pairs or with an examiner. Candidates receive exactly 15 minutes of quiet preparation time (pasirengimas) to take notes on their chosen prompts, followed by the speaking test.

Task 1: Individual Monologue (Monologas)

3-4 Mins Speak

You present a monological speech based on a visual stimulus and outline prompts. Shows description skills, opinion evaluation, and independent thought organization.

Pro Tip: Spend your 15-minute prep time writing keywords and structuring your ideas with logical headings. Do not write full paragraphs—speak naturally using your bullet points.

Task 2: Interactive Dialogue (Dialogas)

4-5 Mins Speak

You interact with your partner or the examiner to discuss a scenario, negotiate solutions, and reach an agreement. Evaluates interactive listening, turn-taking, and conversational strategies.

Pro Tip: Active collaboration is key. Use agreement and disagreement markers (e.g. "I see your point, but...", "That's a great suggestion...") and make sure you invite your partner to speak (e.g. "What do you think?").
