Who is this exam for?

The SPA is a face-to-face oral assessment designed for South Korean business professionals and job applicants. Scoring high (level 4 or higher) is a standard promotion and hiring requirement for international sales, engineering, and office positions inside Hyundai Motor Group, Kia, and Genesis.

Try an SPA Business Prompt Scenario

The SPA is conducted face-to-face. The examiner reads prompts or shows graphs. Here is a realistic business case study task.

SPA Business Interview Card (Level 4/5)

Scenario: Launching a Delayed Product
"You are a project manager. The release of your company's new electric vehicle model is delayed by three weeks due to a battery shipment issue, but the marketing campaign is already active..."

Task 1: Listen & Summarize (3 mins)
  • The interviewer reads a 1-minute audio passage about quality assurance and battery supply chains. Summarize the main facts and key numbers immediately.
Task 2: Suggest Solutions (4 mins)
  • Interviewer Question: "How would you handle the delayed launch? Would you delay the marketing events or release the vehicle on time with a different battery supplier? Explain why."
  • Give your opinion and describe how you would communicate this crisis to your international dealers.

SPA Speaking Test Structure

The face-to-face interview takes 10 minutes in total, conducted live by two native-English speaking interviewers. It consists of three rapid-fire task sections.

Section 1: Q&A & Personal Opinions

3 Mins Speak

The examiners ask spontaneous personal and business questions (e.g. your job responsibilities, a project you completed, or your opinion on working from home).

Pro Tip: Avoid short answers. Always follow a 3-part structure: state your opinion, provide a business or personal example, and link it back to your final point.

Section 2: Listen & Summarize

3 Mins Speak

The examiner reads aloud a short current affairs or business article (about 150 words). You must immediately summarize the key points and repeat the essential data/numbers.

Pro Tip: Pay close attention to numbers, percentages, dates, and names. Repeating these key details accurately demonstrates high listening comprehension.

Section 3: Visual Description & Problem Solving

4 Mins Speak

You are shown a graph, chart, or cartoon to describe. Alternatively, you are given a business crisis scenario to resolve (e.g. dealing with a difficult client or budget cuts).

Pro Tip: When describing a graph, do not just list the numbers. Analyze the trends (e.g., "sales peaked in Q3 due to...", "there was a sharp decline because...") to show corporate readiness.
